About the Project
The Shellharbour Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) guides the future of land use planning across the Shellharbour LGA for the next 20 years. The LSPS will help shape how we grow and ensure we have the infrastructure to support it.
The LSPS was adopted by Council on 18 November 2025. Once adopted, the LSPS is forwarded to The Secretary of the NSW Department of Planning Housing and Infrastructure to provide written advice that the Statement is consistent with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Regional Plan 2041.
The LSPS is Council’s big-picture strategy for how our city grows and changes over the next 20 years. It looks at:
- Where new homes will go
- How we protect nature
- Where jobs and services are needed
- What community spaces and transport will support you (residents)
Every Council in NSW must have an LSPS, and we’re required to review it every 7 years. Shellharbour’s first LSPS was adopted in 2020, and after a quick update in 2022, we’re now doing a review.
This review is based on:- Feedback
- Council’s updated planning documents
- New directions from the NSW Government
- The changing needs of our growing city
The revised version reflects shared values and sets out clear priorities and actions for the future.
Where we are now
We’ve drafted an updated version of the Local Strategic Planning Statement and now we’re checking in with the community to make sure we’re on the right track.
This stage is all about making sure the strategy:
- Reflects what matters most to you 🗣️
- Focuses on the right priorities for Shellharbour’s future
- Doesn’t miss anything important
Your thoughts will help shape how the plan is finalised and how Council takes action.
