Council and Yellow Rock Name Duplication

19 September 2023

Thank you for sharing your preference on how Council could resolve the duplication of the suburb name Yellow Rock in our most recent survey.

From our first survey we heard that members of the Yellow Rock community have experienced confusion and difficulties with the name duplication and the majority support changing the suburb name by adding a prefix or a suffix to Yellow Rock.

In June and July 2023, we asked for feedback on the names Yellow Rock Ridge and Yellow Rock Creek.

50 responses to the second survey told us:

  • 70% of all responses (35) prefer Yellow Rock Ridge
  • 30% of all responses (15) prefer Yellow Rock Creek

Of these responses 35 identified themselves as being from the suburb of Yellow Rock, their preference is:

  • 66% of Yellow Rock suburb responses (23) prefer Yellow Rock Ridge
  • 34% of Yellow Rock suburb responses (12) prefer Yellow Rock Creek

Council will consider the results of this survey and the resolution of the suburb name duplication at its meeting of 26 September 2023. A name endorsed by Council will still need advertising and final approval by the NSW Geographical Names Board.

The report will be available on our website on the Thursday before the Council meeting.
