The works are being carried out to address three issues:

Renewing the existing retaining wall which is damaged or deteriorating in sections.
Modification of two existing pedestrian ramp/step crossings and temporary upgrades to increase the safety of existing stairs located close to the intersection of Eleanor Street.
Addressing pedestrian and vehicle safety with the installation of a guard rail along the upper section of Old Lake Entrance Road, from Government Road to Lang Street.

The new wall will be constructed from concrete which will be sprayed onto the existing crib-wall, with a trowelled finish. Reinforcement will be put in place prior to the concrete being sprayed onto the wall.

The project went out to tender during October 2022, however there were no viable contractors and Council was unable to award and begin construction.

Council hopes to find a suitable Contractor in the near future and deliver this project as part of the 2023-24 Capital Works program.

The planned method of construction will be confirmed once a contractor is engaged.

We will work with the contractors to try to minimise disruptions to residents and manage traffic flow.

It is estimated the entire project will take approximately 3 months.

In order to carry out this work safely and keep the road open to vehicles, on-street parking is likely to be restricted during construction.

Council will be working closely with the construction contractor to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum where possible.

Every effort will be made avoid utilities during construction. We have identified water services that cross some sections of the retaining wall. We will have procedures in place to avoid and reduce the risk of disruption of this service.

The project team are working with Remondis to maintain the service and minimise any disruptions. Residents bins may be collected earlier to ease traffic congestion.

Environmental impacts are considered as part of the ‘Review of Environmental Factors’ report (REF).

A REF is an environmental assessment used to determine whether an activity should be approved by taking into account all matters that affect or may affect the environment.
