Adopted by Council

Why did Council review this Policy?

Council previously had a Tree Donation Policy that allowed for a maximum of 25 plants annually to be donated to local schools and not-for-profit preschools for their grounds. In recent years there has not been as much interest for this service however, there has been rising interest in planting in public open spaces to enhance our bushland and current programs.

We have given local schools opportunities for students to come along to planting days in public open spaces and participate in bush regeneration or tree planting programs. Shellharbour City Council Nursery sources and provides the plants at these planting opportunities. Take a look at some of the times this has happened recently:

Draft implications:

The Draft Tree Donation Policy update is proposing:

  • Reflect the current practice of providing planting opportunities at public open spaces to schools in the policy.
  • School planting days can be incorporated into Council's bushland regeneration or other planting programs.
  • Remove from the policy the donation of 25 plants annually to schools and not for profit preschools to plant on their grounds.
