Learn more about the Depot Upgrade
The Depot Upgrade Project is a staged approach to upgrading the facilities at Oak Flats Depot according to the Depot Masterplan, which was created in 2017.
Temporary offices are installed in the Depot Backyard, and staff will be moving towards a Paperlite workplace to support our value of sustainability and bring in line with existing practices at other sites.
As work progresses stay tuned to this page for more updates of the work. This new building represents Council's objective to provide a quality, safe and sustainable workplace for all staff and we would like for everyone to be able to stay up to date with the progress.
It is anticipated that there will be no direct disruption to local business, with existing on-street car parking maintained through the duration of the works. However, it is anticipated that there may be an increase in noise from machinery and an increase in the number and frequency of vehicles accessing the site including large trucks.
We will provide further construction updates when availalbe.
Stages 1 & 2
Council has begun the upgrade to Oak Flats Works Depot. When all works are complete the upgrades will improve the safety, functionality and operational efficiency of the works depot.
The construction works are located within the Council Depot site and are being delivered in multiple stages. Stages one and two of the project are now complete.
Work will included:
Work will included:
- New vehicle entry off Industrial Road
- Expanded carpark with new line marking for depot staff
- New controlled access gate with
- Improved security system
- Tree removal and replacement tree planting on Industrial Road
Stage 3 of the work started in July 2021 and involves a knock-down rebuild of the existing administration building. This milestone will be the most significant achievement of the Masterplan, and it has been brought forward to align with Council's objective to provide a quality, safe and sustainable workplace for all staff.
We considered renovating and extending the existing building, as well as the knock-down rebuild. After a full comparative analysis, including cost-benefit calculations, the best option was a fit-for-purpose building. This will provide quality shared spaces for all staff in one building, and accommodate future growth.
There are a number of elements that have already been accomplished to date. The key parts of the build completed are:
- All excavation & demolition works.
- Rough-in of ground services & foundation works including screw piles.
- Forming up of piers and reinforcement in place.
- Frame complete.
The next stage to commence will be roof sheeting installation and commencment of external wall framing.
