Connectivity, Parks and Open space Update

5 May 2025

We know many of you are keen for an update, Sophia Park in particular and we really appreciate your ongoing interest and patience!

As part of The Shell Cove Project – a collaboration between Council and Frasers Property Australia - exciting upgrades are planned for Sophia Park, bridge connectivity between Shell Cove and Shellharbour Village and completion of the harbour foreshore open space.

Council approved the playground DA modifications for Sophia Park in 2024 and since, the team has gathered necessary third party approvals and works are about to be tendered for construction. A contractor is expected to start mid-year and planned to be complete by the end of 2025.

Works will include Sophia Park, along with its pedestrian bridges providing access between Shell Cove and Shellharbour Village. The park will include playground, multigenerational fixed fitness equipment, half basketball court and futsal goal, bike racks, benches, public toilet and picnic table. A community garden within the park will also include a dementia-friendly planting area.

The works planned also includes the completion of the northern and eastern portion of the harbour foreshore including an open space park at the breakwater. The completion of this these works complements the new carpark and beach access paths through the dunes to Shellharbour South beach and the breakwater opened late last year along with Boollwarroo Parade, which provides a second access point for pedestrians and traffic between Shell Cove and Shellharbour Village.

More exciting progress for connectivity, parks and open space ahead this year.
