About the Park

James Cook, Shell Cove

James Cook Park is a 'local' park located in a suburban area of Shell Cove. Nestled within the community, this playground has been a space enjoyed by nearby families, children and those within walking distance.

The playground is scheduled for renewal as part of Council’s 2025/26 Capital Works Program. Recent inspections showed that the existing swings and play tower had reached the end of their serviceable life, so they have now been removed.

About the project

About the Project

In August 2025 Shellharbour City Council visited a primary school in the area to ask students what they want to see in local parks and playgrounds. Council staff ran a workshop on play with students from all stages.

For James Cook, we asked 40 students of Shell Cove Public School to share their feedback on what should be included. Most students told us they want active, challenging and adventurous play-based equipment at their local parks.

The new playground will feature like-for-like equipment, along with some new nature play and inclusive play additions, plus visual site upgrades, all designed to meet the needs of the local community while enhancing safety and accessibility.
