Project update - play space construction on hold

22 October 2020

Construction work has temporarily ceased at Reddall Reserve play space. Construction had commenced in mid-September, and temporarily stopped when contractors made an unexpected find, that has potential cultural significance.

As a result of this discovery, Council has commenced a process to seek an Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit (AHIP) to allow construction to continue at the site. The AHIP process is expected to take up to 12 months to complete and may involve archaeological investigations at the site and thorough consultation with the local Aboriginal community.

During this time, the site fencing will remain to ensure that the site is protected whilst investigative works take place. Council in the short term will continue to control the dust from the excavated area using methods acceptable to the NSW Heritage Office. Council are also working with the NSW Heritage Office to seek a suitable longer term solution to dust control, including grass.
