Construction of the Yellow Rock Road Upgrade is continuing, with the project currently around 60% complete.

Delivery of the improved road surface, access to parking and safe pedestrian routes for the benefit of the community is the priority for Council and our Contractor.

Significant progress has been made, including completion of the new road section between Hereford Chase and Araluen Terrace, along with drainage and utility installation works between the Illawarra Highway and Wongawilli Street.

Revised Project Timeframe

As part of the upgrade, several major utility services required relocation from the future road alignment. While the new assets have now been installed, final utility connection works are still required by the utility authorities before some stages of road construction can proceed.

Due to these requirements, the project has experienced delays and Council has revised the construction program.

The project is now expected to be completed in early 2027.

To help manage site safety and environmental condition for community throughout the delay, Council are implementing immediate measures including temporary asphalt surfacing of all exposed road travel lanes, reduction of site stockpiles and implementation of turf and spray seeding wherever possible whilst Council waits for the utility authority connections.

Council is also working to limit the effects of the large number of truck movements along Yellow Rock Road to neighbouring subdivision development sites.

What's Happening Next?

Construction activities will continue throughout the remainder of 2026, including:

• Temporary asphalt sealing of open road sections

• Utility connection works

• Kerb, gutter and concrete works where possible

• Construction of the Paul Circuit roundabout

• Permanent line marking and signage through completed sections

A temporary road closure is anticipated in early 2027 to allow road construction works between the Illawarra Highway and Hereford Chase to be completed as efficiently as possible. Further details will be provided closer to the works.
